Detaching Opinion from Identity! One of the best lessons I got from the book 'Think Again' by Adam Grant is the idea he shared about how we become attached to certain ideas and how we deal with finding out that they are wrong and be open enough to rethinking and relearning. Here is a beautiful summary as captured by #AvnishAnand. "The key takeaway is that we should avoid becoming too attached to our ideas and our beliefs. We shouldn’t let it become part of our identity. Stay a little detached. That way, when we find out that they are wrong, it’s easy for us to rethink and let go of old ideas. When we let our ideas become part of our identity, we become hostile to the thought of being wrong. Our ego steps in and tries to counter all the evidence that points to a rethink. Our identity shouldn’t be based on our ideas and our beliefs. Instead, it should be based on what we value. That calibration ensures we handle being wrong in a positive way." #books #bookaddict #bookstoread #insightfrombook #InsightToImpact #lessonsforlife #lessonsinleadership #idea #ideasworthspreading @positivetunes

"I read many books in my life, but I don't remember most of the information I got from them. So what's the use of reading so many books?" A student asked his teacher exactly this question one day. The teacher was silent about this, he did not answer on the first day. After a few days, the student and the teacher met one day by the river, the teacher showed the student a pot with a hole and said - "Go, take the pot from the river and bring me a pot of water", the pot fell there on the ground in the dirt. The student felt a little confused, it was an absurd advice, it was not possible to fetch water with a pot with holes, but the teacher's advice could not be disobeyed, so he picked up the pot from the ground and ran to the river to fetch water. He filled the pot and came up with water, but could not go far, after taking a few steps the water filled all the holes and fell. He tried a few more times, but he failed and became frustrated. After several more attempts like this he could not reach the water, he was very tired. Then he went back to the teacher and said - "I have failed, I cannot bring water to this vessel, it is not possible for me, forgive me." Hearing the student, the teacher gave a gentle smile and aimed at the student, he said - "No, you have not failed. Look at the pot, it is clean now, it looks like a brand new pot. Every time the water falls through the holes, the dirt inside the pot is removed." Cleared outThe same thing happens to you when you read a book, your brain is like a vessel with holes, and the information in the book is like water. So when you read a book you cannot remember everything. But whether you read a book and remember all its information is not that important. Because the ideas, knowledge, emotions, feelings, realizations and truths you find in reading books clear your mind, every time you finish reading a book you undergo a spiritual transformation, every time you are reborn, thus becoming a purer human being. . That is the main purpose of reading books." Happy reading…. September With the Wisdom Words of Dr. Wayne Dyer - Celebrating the Father of Motivation Resolve to Get Real by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer Forget about those New Year’s resolutions in which you decide on the first day of the year how you will be conducting your life some nine months later. Here’s why: any resolution that involves you making decisions about long-range upcoming behavior reinforces the self-defeating notion of living in the future rather than in the present moment. In fact, you can go about resolving until the cows come home, and you still have to live your life just like everyone else on this planet—ONE DAY AT A TIME. The important questions to be asking yourself are “How am I going to use my present moments this year?” and “Will I waste them in reviewing to myself how I used to behave, or how I would like to behave in the future, rather than resolving to live each day to the fullest?” What you can do is set up day-to-day goals for yourself, and then resolve to begin living with present moment awareness for the rest of your life. For example, instead of deciding you are going to give up sugar for a year, resolve to go one day without eating sugar. Anyone can do virtually anything if it is for only one day. When you go for one whole day without eating sugar (or any other new behavior), you are a totally different person at the end of that day. Learn to let that totally different person decide on the second day whether he or she wants to do it again on this new day, rather than letting the same old person decide that it is only going to be difficult in a couple of days anyhow, “so what’s the use.” Always let the new you make the decision, and then you’ll be living your present moments. You know how easy it is to give up on a resolution, and you may have attributed this to some character flaw or personality weakness. Not so! You give up on your resolutions because your mind resists the notion of trying to live your life in long stretches, when it is patently impossible to do so. It is simply a matter of asking yourself at the beginning of the day, “How do I want to conduct my life today?” Then very directly begin to carry out your goals for the day. When you get good at living your present moments one day at a time, you’ll see yourself changing right before your own surprised eyes. Remember, anyone can do anything for just one day, so tune out the sentences that keep you locked into your old self-defeating ways and begin to enjoy each day of your bright new year. "In the blink of an eye another day is gone, In the blink of an eye another week is gone. In the blink of an eye another month is gone, In the blink of an eye another year is gone. And in the blink of an eye I'll be gone too, And not just me but also you. So maybe we should be wishin' and hopin', That we could just keep our eyes open. And see and appreciate all that we can see, And learn how we can be, the best that we can be, Before it's too late, Time flies, so let's not wait. Whether we have just one life or many, one thing is true, We should try to enjoy every moment we can; it's the wisest thing to do."- Unknown @positivetunes

September With the Wisdom Words of Dr. Wayne Dyer - Celebrating the Father of Motivation "All man's miseries derive from not being able to sit quietly in a room alone." BLAISE PASCAL (1623-1662) "It has been estimated that the average person has sixty thousand separate thoughts each and every day. The problem with this is that we have the same sixty thousand thoughts today that we had yesterday, and we'll repeat them again tomorrow. Our minds are filled with the same chatter day in and day out. Learning to be quiet and meditate involves figuring out a way to enter the spaces between your thoughts; or the gap, as I call it. In this silent empty space between your thoughts, you can find a sense of total peace in a realm that is ordinarily unknowable." Wisdom of the Ages by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer @positivetunes

September With the Wisdom Words of Dr. Wayne Dyer - Celebrating the Father of Motivation “There is a story concerning the Buddha, who is in the company of a fellow traveler who tests this great teacher with derogatory, insulting, disparaging, and bitter responses to anything the Buddha says. Every day, for three days when the Buddha spoke, the traveler responded by calling him a fool, and ridiculing the Buddha in some arrogant fashion. Finally, at the end of the third day, the traveler could stand it no more. He asked, “How is it that you are able to be so loving and kind when all I’ve done for the past three days is dishonor and offend you? Each time I am disobliging to you, you respond in a loving manner. How is this possible?” The Buddha responded with a question of his own for the traveler. “If someone offers you a gift, and you do not accept that gift, to whom does the gift belong?” ― Wayne W. Dyer, There's a Spiritual Solution to Every Problem @positivetunes

The 90/10 Principle Consider a situation: You're eating breakfast with your family. Your daughter accidentally knocks over a cup of coffee onto your business shirt. You curse and harshly scold your daughter for the mishap. She breaks down in tears. After scolding her, you turn to your wife and criticize her for placing the cup too close to the edge of the table. A short verbal argument follows. You storm upstairs and change your shirt. Back downstairs, you find your daughter has been too busy crying to finish breakfast and get ready for school. She misses the bus. Your wife must leave immediately for work. You rush to the car and drive your daughter to school. Because you are late, you drive 80 km an hour in a 60 km/h speed limit zone. After a 15-minute delay and paying a $60 traffic fine, you arrive at school. Your daughter runs to the building without saying goodbye. After arriving at the office 30 minutes late, you find you forgot your briefcase. Your day has started terribly, and as it continues, it seems to get worse and worse. You look forward to going home. When you arrive home, you find a small wedge in your relationship with your wife and daughter. Why? Because of how you reacted in the morning. Why did you have a bad day? A) Did the coffee cause it? B) Did your daughter cause it? C) Did the traffic policeman cause it? D) Did you cause it? The answer is D. You had no control over what happened with the coffee. How you reacted in those 5 seconds is what caused your bad day. Here is what could have and should have happened: Coffee splashes over you. Your daughter is about to cry. You gently say, "It's OK honey, you just need to be more careful next time." Grabbing a towel, you rush upstairs, change your shirt, and grab your briefcase. You come back down in time to look through the window and see your child getting on the bus. She turns and waves. You and your wife kiss before you both go to work. You arrive 5 minutes early and cheerfully greet the staff. Your boss comments on how good a day you are having. Notice the difference. Two different scenarios. Both started the same but ended differently. Why? Because of how you REACTED. You really do not have any control over 10% of what happens. The other 90% is determined by your reaction. Here are some ways to apply the 90/10 secret: If someone says something negative about you, do not be a sponge. Let the attack roll off like water on glass. You don't have to let the negative comment affect you! React properly, and it will not ruin your day. A wrong reaction could result in losing a friend, being fired, getting stressed out, etc. How do you react if someone cuts you off in traffic? Do you lose your temper? Pound the steering wheel? Curse? Does your blood pressure skyrocket? Do you try and bump them? WHO CARES if you arrive ten seconds later at work? Why let the blue car ruin your drive? Remember the 90/10 principle, and do not worry about it! If you are told you lost your job, why lose sleep or get irritated? It will work out. Channel your energy and time into finding another job. If the plane is late, and it is going to mangle your schedule for the day, why vent your frustration on the flight attendant? She has no control over what is going on. Use your time to read, get to know the other passengers, etc. Why get stressed out? It will just make things worse. Now you know the 90/10 secret. Apply it, and you will be amazed at the results. @positivetunes

“The breezes at dawn have secrets to tell you do not go back to sleep! You must ask for what you really want. Don't go back to sleep! People are going back and forth across the doorsill where the two worlds touch, the door is round and open don't go back to sleep!” ― Rumi What is that time of the night you find yourself waking up every now and then? And if there is this common hour what do you do when you find yourself wide awake? Do you start counting down from a thousand to drag yourself back to sleep? Do you say 'Well it comes with the age' and run to the bathroom? Do you end up calculating how many hours you have slept and if you wake up then you will be deprived of such and such hours of sleep and fight to go back to sleep? Or do you use it to reconnect to the Devine in you, to enjoy the peace in you and use the moment to pray? One thing I know for sure is that such moments bring peace, heart of gratitude and humility. It is a moment you find yourself free from your ego. There is more blessing in such uncommon hours. Do not go back! A gratifying day to us all! @positivetunes

A Note for the Inner-self - From My Month Memoir Dear Me, Each person you meet is like a book; filled with experiences, talents and wisdom while some might be like the kind of person you want to avoid because of their negative personality, bad perspectives or self centered attitudes others are like social magnets; they are the kind of people you want to have around all the time through their charm, optimism, kindheartedness and never ending alluring personality. As Ann Frank once said every person is kind at heart and its only the experiences they go through that sores their being. So if you manage how you react to your encounters in your everyday, some end up being your inspirations while others through the rough times you have with them end up being your biggest sources of lessons. May your everyday be colored with people who end up being your source of motivation, inspiration and reason for your betterment. @positivetunes
