Sometimes not all pain simply disappears and we become better at dealing with it. It is said that time heals wounds but this is not entirely true. Some pains some losses stay with us. It could be a bereavement for a loved one or an unfulfilled dream or you may be recovering from a childhood trauma that was never fully resolved. These are more than just memories. They influence who we are. We may wish the pain would go away. Instead, we learn to bear it with grace. We find ways to move forward by integrating pain into our lives without letting it overshadow our joy. The fact that pain persists does not mean that you have failed to heal. It can become a source of strength and wisdom. When the pain does not go away, know that your struggle is important and that you are stronger than you think. Quando si parla di “ascoltare con compassione” di solito pensiamo all’ascolto di qualcun altro; ma dobbiamo ascoltare anche il bimbo ferito che è in noi: egli è qui, in questo momento. E noi lo possiamo guarire proprio qui e ora: “Mio caro, mio piccolo bambino ferito, sono qui per te. Su, raccontami tutta la tua sofferenza, il tuo dolore: sono qui, ti ascolto davvero”. Se sai come rimetterti in contatto con lui o con lei, se lo sai ascoltare in questo modo, ogni giorno, per cinque o dieci minuti, in te avverrà una guarigione. Quando vai ad arrampicare in montagna, invita il tuo bambino ad arrampicare insieme a te; quando contempli un tramonto magnifico, invitalo a goderne insieme a te. Se fai così per qualche settimana o per qualche mese, il bimbo ferito che è in te guarirà.
