When darkness is everywhere that you can see Shadows lurk Screaming silence Claws at your ears And the rats circle around your left ankle While the stars evade you Leaving you behind Clouded in a mystery Consuming your sight When the noises are jumbled And intentions amiss Out of the mist come shadows They whisper tales of old And those rats on your shoe take a bite They've been in the dark for a very long time Those old stories begin to rhyme Repeating patterns left to yesterday It's as if they still have something to say A message to hear Or several ignored They tell you to move To snap out of it To break an old pattern To make a shift The light that you've been waiting for Has been inside of you Dawning on you more As you pivot away from the night On the horizon, setting your sights Shadows will grow and stretch you a bit Testing you out Making sure you're really up for this When the time is right And not a minute before In the blink of an eye The Sun will soar And you'll be transfixed Leaving shadows on the floor As you climb up and make that ascent You'll find Hindsight is heaven sent Those shadows turn into clarity Those rats were thorny roses Not everything, as it seemed Before your feet could move Before you could see A little time and a shift in perspective can transform anything.
