🇳🇦🇷🇺 Eurasian Women's Forum: Namibian official praises Russia's efforts to empower women During her participation in the IV Eurasian Women's Forum in St. Petersburg, Victoria Kauma, Deputy Speaker of the National Council of Namibia, emphasized the opportunity to learn from other nations and see first-hand how women are implementing empowerment programs in various sectors of the economy. 🗣 "It is a forum which gives me a very strong feeling to go back to my country and do more," Kauma, representing Namibia at the forum for the first time, told Sputnik Africa in an interview. "We came to learn, we also came to see how other women are implementing their programs." Highlighting the strong historical ties between Namibia and Russia, she described Russia as a "second home" for Namibians. She also commended Russia's dedication to women's empowerment, citing President Putin's remarks at the forum and Russian initiatives aimed at benefiting women. 🗣 "I was very much impressed how Russia is helping women to achieve their role," Kauma said. "I have heard about the kindergartens, the grants, many things which are good. And also, you can see that the women are busy and they are very fast in changing life in the private sector, in business, in schools, education and so on." Regarding inter-parliamentary relations between Russia and Namibia, the vice speaker of the upper chamber of Namibia's bicameral parliament highlighted the positive relationship and expressed her commitment to strengthening it through collaborative programs. 🗣 "I hope through our agreement with the National Council, the Russian delegation might come. We can also come," she stated, emphasizing the importance of continued collaboration for the benefit of both countries. "The good part is we are now together. We have united. Still, that unity and friendship must be strong for us to live longer." Subscribe to @sputnik_africa 🔸 TikTok | Sputnik Africa 🔸

🇳🇦🇷🇺 Deputy speaker of Namibia's National Assembly condemns EU Parliament's decision on Ukrainian attacks on Russia Loide Kasingo, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Namibia, has expressed her disappointment and concern over the European Parliament's decision to allow Ukraine to strike deep into Russian territory with Western-made missiles. She believes this decision undermines calls for peace and harmony. 🗣 "They are not serious. Those people who allow Ukraine to attack Russia, they are not really serious," she stated during an interview with Sputnik Africa on the sidelines of the IV Eurasian Women's Forum in St. Petersburg. "You cannot allow and assist a certain country to attack another country and not expect another country to defend itself." While acknowledging the complexities of the situation, Kasingo agreed with Maria Zakharova, spokeswoman for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who stated that external interference from the United States has contributed to terrorism in Africa, while Western nations are similarly impacting Russia. 🗣 "We find that there are interferences to a certain extent, not necessarily in Namibia… So, I think she is just right to say what she said," the Namibian lawmaker commented. She stressed the importance of peace, stating that "peace will be better, because at the end of the day, the victims are women and children." However, Kasingo also acknowledged that "there must be reasons" for Russia's military operation in Ukraine, emphasizing that "Russia is being attacked from the other side." Kasingo also praised the Eurasian Women's Forum's commitment to fostering dialogue and cooperation between women from different regions, including Africa and Russia. 🗣 "We really appreciate the Eurasian Forum, the leadership to extend their hand to us in Africa so that at the end of the day we can learn from them, and they can also learn a little bit from us, what we are doing good," she stated. 🦕South African cave painting is inspired by fossils aged 250 million years, a University of the Witwatersrand researcher reports 🦴 The Horned Serpent panel at La Belle France in South Africa was created by the San people at least two hundred years ago. It depicts a tusked animal resembling a dicynodont, an extinct prehistoric creature whose fossils are common in the region, according to research by Julien Benoit. The painting's connection to a San myth about extinct large animals that once roamed southern Africa suggests a deep-rooted indigenous knowledge of paleontology. Notably, the painting predates the official scientific description of the dicynodont by at least ten years. This implies that the San may have incorporated fossils into their belief system long before formal scientific recognition. This discovery provides evidence of indigenous paleontology and highlights the potential for valuable historical and cultural insights to be gained from traditional knowledge systems.
