Now that we all have an idea of some legitimate investment vehicles, what's your take on the tweet above? How would you safely invest 100M for best returns in the next 10 years? Earlier this year, a student of mine sent me this "investment opportunity". Without a second glance, I told him this WAS NOT an investment but simply the return of MMM. 500K to get 200K monthly is 40% monthly. Such schemes with huge ROI are NEVER sustainable and sooner or later, they always CRASH. Just like others before it, this one too has crashed. Truth is that most people esp. Nigerians knows what these schemes are and yet, they still go ahead to "invest" in them due to to the promise of huge ROI. And when they crash, they either feign ignorance or naivety instead of addressing their greed. And trust me, they will still jump on the next Ponzi scheme available. Investments aren't ponzi schemes. Neither are they money-doubling machines. Investments are vehicles for building wealth on the long-term. The keyword here is long-term. If you can't be patient to for the long ride, investments aren't for you. If you want huge ROI within a short span of time, go run a business with the money. If you must have noticed, all the investment opportunities I have shared so far in our investment emails are either backed/regulated by NDIC, SEC or full faith of the Nigerian govt which give you some form of insurance in event of negative eventuality. HISAs and Fixed Deposit Notes are insured by SEC. Treasury bills and bonds are backed by the full faith of the Nigerian govt. Commercial papers, REITS, stocks and mutual funds are regulated by SEC. The sacred code of investment is "Always consider the return OF your investment before considering the return ON investment". It is only when your investment can be returned before you can make returns on it. In simple terms, safety first before profits.
