A wartime meeting of the Flemish-nationalist, Greater-Dutch, collaborationist ‘Vlaamsch Nationaal Verbond’ (Flemish National Union) or VNV party. Before the war, the VNV was an electorally successful party, winning both the 1936 and 1939 elections. During WWII, the party leadership decided to collaborate with the German occupying forces. The VNV actively enlisted men into the Waffen-SS. After the death of party-leader Staf Declercq in 1942, the movement fell into disarray. Relations between the Germans and the party quickly deteriorated. At the end of the war, the German occupier would instead support the Greater-German rival of the VNV, namely the ‘DeVlag.’
