A 28-year-old Nigerian woman, Favour Ugwe, has been sentenced to eight years of hard labor in Ghana for human tr@fficking.
She was sentenced on Thursday, September 19, after being found guilty of trafficking a 19-year-old woman from Chad for exploitation in Ghana.
The court also ordered to pay GH¢5,000 as compensation to the victim, Starrfm reports.
The convict had admitted to recruiting the victim from Abuja, Nigeria, with the assistance of another Nigerian man, and paying for her transportation to Ghana.
Her Honour Mrs. Akosua Anokyewaa Adjepong, who presided over the case, said she considered Ugwe’s lack of remorse during the trial and the prevalence of human tr@fficking in the country before passing her sentence.
The court also said it took into consideration the fact that the convict is a first-time offender, her age, and the number of months spent in custody.
In a video posted online, the convict could be seen crying as security officers led her away from the courthouse.

Singer Ikuforiji Olaitan Abdulrahman, popularly known as Oxlade, says he started singing even before he could talk.
In a recent episode of the ’90s Babies podcast, Oxlade said his parents recalled that as a child, he sang faster than he could articulate words.
According to him, “I started singing before I started talking. My parents told me that I started singing before I could even talk. I sang faster than catching up with talks. That was what my parents told me. I feel like that was where it [my talent] all started from.
