Death, be not proud, though some have called thee Mighty and dreadful, for thou art not so; For those whom thou think'st thou dost overthrow Die not, poor Death, nor yet canst thou kill me. From rest and sleep, which but thy pictures be, Much pleasure; then from thee much more must flow, And soonest our best men with thee do go, Rest of their bones, and soul's delivery. Thou art slave to fate, chance, kings, and desperate men, And dost with poison, war, and sickness dwell, And poppy or charms can make us sleep as well And better than thy stroke; why swell'st thou then? One short sleep past, we wake eternally And death shall be no more; Death, thou shalt die.

Repost from The Daily Decade
Daily Decade 2.0 Series 12, Episode 1 Today's Mystery: The Annunciation Today's Daily Decade, for the Feast of St. Eucherius of Lyon, offers prayers for the good priests of the Church who work to defend the Faith and seriously hold themselves to their vows. We beg the intercession of Ss. Stephen Protomartyr (deacon), Valentine of Rome (priest), Ignatius of Antioch (bishop), and Peter the Apostle (Pope) on behalf of all the priests, prelates, and hierarchs who are tasked with the defense and cultivation of the Faith and Christ's Church on Earth. Today's reflection is on Mary and Joseph immediately following the Annunciation, and what they're behaviour teaches us as we prepare toe enter the season of Lent. 2023 TELEGRAM CHESS CLASSIC Unrated classical chess tournament taking place throughout April. Free to play* with the following prizes** guaranteed: 1st place: $100, 2nd place: $50, 3rd place: $25, best performance from U1400 account: $25. 5 round Swiss with ties decided by sudden death tiebreaks. Requirements: Telegram and LiChess accounts. Registration: to register, join the tournament chat here and send a message to @TGChessRegister containing your LiChess username and a declaration of your intent to play. Registration will close on Sunday, April 2nd at 8:00 AM EST. Tournament Schedule: Pairings will be posted each Sunday at 9:00 AM EST. Rounds begin 4/2, 4/9, 4/16, 4/23, and 4/30. You and your paired opponent will be responsible for finding a time you are both free to play and finish your match prior to 8:00 AM EST the following Sunday***. We also encourage you to network with your opponents; this is a fun, friendly tournament, so please be polite and cordial at the very least and try to be open to making some new frens. Tournament venue: The default venue for all games will be LiChess. However, if both players agree to play on another website or through some other means, we do not object to this choice so long as the games are recorded. Time controls: Game/90 +30 sec increment. Procedures: After your game is finished, send the result including your game's number (will be displayed in the pairings), the result (1-0 for a white victory, 0-1 for a black victory, 1/2-1/2 for a draw), and either a link to the game or the moves copy/pasted into the message in PGN format to @TGChessResults. If no submission is made before 8:00 AM EST the following Sunday, both players will receive a loss. Some games may be reviewed on the channel in the form of video commentary. If you are opposed to this, please let us know either when you register or submit the game. Tiebreaks: Player with higher tiebreak score gets to pick colors for game 1; sudden death format; play continues if a draw is reached but with colors switched. Games 1 & 2: Game/15 +5 sec increment. Games 3 & 4: Game/5 +3 sec increment. Game 5: Armageddon. White starts with 5 minutes, black with 4. No increment. If the game results in a draw, black is declared the winner. (There is no ability to set the clocks this way on LiChess, so the method would be to start with a 4 minute game but have black give white an extra minute prior to making his first move; this can be done by hitting the "+" button next to the displayed time.) If you have any questions, please reach out to @LanceRGoebel. *If you would like to contribute to help us expand the prize pool and provide a bit of money to those running the tournament behind the scenes, you can donate here. Half of all donations (after fees) will go to supporting volunteer tournament staff; the other half will go to the prize pool. **Eligibility for the U1400 prize will be determined prior to the tournament based on convincing LiChess account history of U1400 play; consequently, you can't play yourself into a higher rating and thus out of this prize. Furthermore, if you win 1st, 2nd, or 3rd overall, you lose eligibility for the U1400 prize. Players found guilty of cheating will be booted from the tournament and thus disqualified from the prize fund. ***If you and your opponent's schedules have no overlap, tournament directors will decide the result on a case by case basis. For example, if player 1 had only 1 free time during the whole week while player 2 had many slots open at which they could play, we'd give the point to player 2. In weaker cases, we may give each player a full or half point bye. If you and your opponent schedule a time to play and your opponent does not show up to play within 30 minutes of that time, you can declare yourself the winner but are encouraged to give your opponent another shot if they have a decent excuse and there is a reasonable amount of time remaining in which to play.

Day II of the Novena of Our Lady of Lourdes Be blessed, O most pure Virgin, for having vouchsafed to manifest your shining with life, sweetness and beauty, in the Grotto of Lourdes, saying to the child, St. Bernadette: "I am the Immaculate Conception." A thousand times we congratulate you upon your Immaculate Conception. And now, O ever Immaculate Virgin, Mother of mercy, Health of the sick, Refuge of sinners, Comforter of the afflicted, you know our wants, our troubles, our sufferings; deign to cast upon us a look of mercy. By appearing in the Grotto of Lourdes, you were pleased to make it a privileged sanctuary, whence you dispense your favors, and already many have obtained the cure of their infirmities, both spiritual and physical. We come, therefore, with the most unbounded confidence to implore your maternal intercession. Obtain for us, O loving Mother, the granting of our request. For the healing of Holy Mother Church and the conversion of the heretics who are permitted to torment, chastise, and afflict those loyal to her. Through gratitude for your favors, we will endeavor to imitate your virtues, that we may one day share your glory.    Our Lady of Lourdes, Mother of Christ, you had influence with your Divine Son while upon earth. You have the same influence now in Heaven. Pray for us; obtain for us from your Divine Son our special requests if it be the Divine Will. Amen. Our Lady of Lourdes, pray for us. Saint Bernadette, pray for us.  Be blessed, O most pure Virgin, for having vouchsafed to manifest yourself shining with light, sweetness and beauty, in the Grotto of Lourdes, saying to the child Saint Bernadette: "I am the Immaculate Conception!" O Mary Immaculate, inflame our hearts with one ray of the burning love of your pure heart. Let them be consumed with love for Jesus and for you, in order that we may merit one day to enjoy your glorious eternity. O dispenser of His graces here below, take into your keeping and present to your Divine Son the petition for which we are making this novena.     O brilliant star of purity, Mary Immaculate, Our Lady of Lourdes, glorious in your assumption, triumphant in your coronation, show unto us the mercy of the Mother of God. Virgin Mary, Queen and Mother, be our comfort, hope, strength, and consolation. Amen.    Our Lady of Lourdes, pray for us.    Saint Bernadette, pray for us.

Repost from The Daily Decade
Your Rosary is a cat-of-nine-tails by which you scourge the Devil and his minions. Our Faith is not for the timid, the tepid, or the tremulous. Imagine how tough Our Lady had to be to bear the Sorrows which would have killed many men had they to bear them. Does Our Lord look weak and soft to you, blood pouring from His wounds, His Sacred Heart weighed down with all the sins men had ever committed or would ever commit, as still he stubbornly climbs Mount Calvary to valiantly embrace the specific Death which redeems the Earth? Do not be soft. Do not settle for a Christianity that gives you comfort. You were baptised and therefore born not of the flesh, not of the will of man, but of God. Such are born for greater things.
