The only reason the Bolsheviks werenโ€™t accused of fascism by other โ€œsocialistsโ€ during the revolution was because fascism didnโ€™t exist yet. The shitlib social democrats, Mensheviks and others at the time accused them of every possibly political pejorative. They said Lenin fully abandoned Marxism, and embraced โ€œbarracks socialism.โ€

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: Just wanted to let you guys know I'm back in the US for about a month, and I brought my grandmother with me to visit. Because I'm spending more time with family, I cannot guarantee that new episodes of Strait Talk will be released on time. HOWEVER, I do promise to still deliver the number of episodes I'm supposed to. I am still writing my book, doing episode prep, and doing research every day, on top of working on my album. To all my patrons and channel subscribers: your generous contributions have allowed me to upgrade the sound foam in my "studio" back in Taiwan, and you should be able to see them in later episodes recorded back there. I would much rather be a little bit late delivering my episodes than deliver them on time but make them subpar, and I hope you can all understand my decision in doing so. Thank you very much for your continued support!

A picture from 2005 that'll confuse both pro- and anti-China westerners. Anti-separatist demonstrators protesting against Lee Teng-hui's visit. By then, Lee had been expelled from the KMT and began openly embracing Taiwan separatism.

In addition to doing my podcast, I'm also writing a book that covers the fundamentals of Cross-Strait and Sino-American relations in depth. The goal of the book is for anyone who reads it to be able to better interpret news and current events, which will be relevant as Sino-American antagonisms sharpen.

With narrow โ€˜nationalism,โ€™ you typically have some narrow idea of communal belonging, to the total exclusion of all others. With cosmopolitanism, you have a false total inclusivity (or exclusivity), but which negates all particulars. With multi-polarism, you have a recognition of other communities and peoples, but in a way that is determinate. The very form of this inclusivity is unique to a specific civilization. Hence Russia recognizes the Inguish minorities, but the very way it does this is uniquely Russian. Hence China recognizes various ethnicities, but in a uniquely Chinese way. They are global civilizations in scale, but in a way that is determinate and concrete. A pole can be understood as a specific way in which differences between people are reconciled into a greater unity. That is the meaning of civilization.
