Kind of funny that the "demure" trend, which is essentially telling us to take up less space, sacrifice personal expression for the sake of being more palatable to men, is started by a man cosplaying as a woman.

The sacrifices I mentioned are complementary when a marriage remains intact, but express themselves in devastating ways if a marriage falls apart. A mother is significantly more likely to fall into poverty and lose her home than the father if a divorce occurs. Redpill talking points about women becoming enriched through divorce do not materialize in any actual statistics on the topic. But in the long term, what we see through men's neglect of their presence in their children's lives through focusing on their careers is that, in their end-of-life care, they tend to be alone. Social media is now full of nursing home workers talking about how men die alone. Old women are the ones who have visitors from among their descendants. Old men do not, unless they have a wife. Divorced men die alone and are buried in a cheap grave.

The "wage gap" and the "motherhood penalty" are the same thing. Statistically, the wage gap does not exist before the age of 25 and is very slender between unmarried men and unmarried women who are older than that. The reason for the wage gap among married individuals is that married men with children tend to do all they can to maximize their earnings, while married women with children tend to do all they can to maximize their flexibility if they have a job (including side hustles, which are very big among SAHMs). And there's nothing inherently wrong with that dichotomy. It makes perfect sense given the physical burdens women carry with childbearing that men do not. Often when I see people critique "the gender divide," it's in the hopes of dismissing the legitimate concerns of the opposite sex. But in this particular case, I do believe that men and women undervalue the importance of the opposite sex's sacrifice of flexibility and earning power, respectively, in order to achieve the greater of the other for the benefit of the family.
