This monument commemorates the tragic events of the French Revolution of 1792, when the assault on the Tuileries Palace in Paris took place on August 10. The Swiss Guards, hired to protect King Louis XVI and his family, were caught in the middle of the bloody conflict. On that day, revolutionary troops and armed mobs seized the palace, demanding the overthrow of the monarchy. The Swiss Guards, consisting of about 900 soldiers, did their duty to the last, defending the king despite orders to retreat. Most of the Guards were killed - various estimates put the death toll at around 600 Swiss, while only a few dozen survived. This heroic act came to symbolize the dedication and professionalism of the Swiss soldiers. The monument in Lucerne recalls not only the deaths of the Guardsmen, but also the bloody events of the Revolution, which cost the lives of thousands of Frenchmen. During those days, according to various accounts, some 400-600 supporters of the monarchy and civilians also died in the storming of the palace. This episode hastened the fall of the monarchy in France and was a milestone towards radical change in the country. «The Dying Lion» symbolizes the loss not only of the Swiss Guard, but also the end of the old regime, marked by the collapse of the absolute monarchy and the beginning of a new era in French history.

The photo shows the Banyo dolmen, one of the largest megalithic structures in Europe, which is about 5000 years old 🪨 Dolmens like this one were used as burial structures in prehistoric times and were part of ritual ceremonies. Interestingly, this dolmen, like many other similar structures, consists of huge stone slabs, the weight of which can reach several tons. Modern scientists are still arguing about how people of that time could move and install such massive stones without the use of modern technology. Click on ❤️ or ⭐️

Just look at these keys from the 18th century and look at yours 🔑 They looked more like works of art than modern ones. They were decorated with intricate carved patterns and elements that resembled architectural details. Such keys may have been part of rich locks, doors or chests for palaces, mansions or religious buildings. They clearly fulfilled not only a functional but also a symbolic role, indicating the status of the owner or the special importance of what they protected. Perhaps these keys opened doors to important secrets or vaults of jewelry. Every element in these keys, from the intricate carvings to the functional details, reflects the skill of the blacksmiths and foundry workers of the time. How can we be sure that all of this was built by us and for us? 🤔 These majestic structures, seemingly the embodiment of something supernatural, are astonishing in their scale and beauty. Description of each photo below. Click on quote to expand ⬇️
Photo 1: The Sanctuary of Las Lajas in Colombia literally overhangs the gorge, as if connecting earth and sky. Its Gothic spires and arches rise above the abyss, giving the impression that this structure is not just a temple, but a bridge between worlds. Photo 2: The Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, as the embodied fantasy of Antoni Gaudi, is still under construction, as if this project was never meant to be completed within a human lifetime. Its organic forms and symbols, reminiscent of something divine, raise questions about the very meaning of time and eternity. Photo 3: St. Mark's Basilica in Venice, with its Byzantine mosaics and domes, looks as if it has stepped off the pages of an ancient legend. It reflects the history of centuries of culture, linking East and West, rising above the square as an eternal symbol of the power of faith and art. Photo 4: Milan Cathedral, with its countless spires and Gothic sophistication, is breathtaking. This temple, like a forest of stone, rises above the city as a monument to the human quest for the divine.
These buildings evoke admiration and a sense of mystery at the same time. Were they really built by us? Or are we merely the conduits of something greater that is expressed through our architecture and art? Click on ❤️ or ⭐️

Anatomical machines from the 18th century 🤖 This is the name of two exhibits from Naples commissioned by Raimondo di Sangro, Prince Sansevero, who was a Freemason and alchemist. Allegedly, he used his servants as lab rats for his experiments. Sangro invented and injected the unfortunates with a solution that mummified them by turning their blood into metal. In 2008, scientists analyzed the machines. It turned out that the bone structure of the two bodies was indeed human. Two real skeletons! But the circulatory apparatus is made of metal wire and colored with wax. Arteries and veins are reproduced with astonishing perfection, even the smallest vessels, although the knowledge of anatomy, according to official history - then was not as accurate as today. As a result, we have incredibly detailed 18th century models that were ahead of their time in terms of knowledge. Click on ❤️ or ⭐️

Valley of the Spirits, Bolivia 🇧🇴 The Vale de las Animas, or Valley of the Spirits, is a dense ridge of rock formations, each soaring into the sky with large clusters of mountain peaks. The valley has been shaped by mountain mudslides and erosion over hundreds of years, and its stunning scenery has attracted travelers for thousands of years. The first people to visit the valley originated the belief that the spires were petrified souls, and named the area accordingly. Since then, a stream of tourists has continuously flocked to the valley to marvel at the thousands of rugged peaks that form deep gorges, many side passages and sub valleys. Click on ❤️ or ⭐️

🏯 Great Cities of Antiquity: Mohenjo-Daro Mohenjo-Daro is one of the largest cities of the ancient Indus civilization, built around 2600 BC. The city was characterized by an advanced water system and street layout. The streets were strictly laid out in a grid pattern and the buildings were made of fired bricks. Archaeologists still find evidence of the city's advanced infrastructure. Unfortunately, by 1900 BC, Mohenjo-Daro had fallen into decline, and the reasons for this are still a mystery. 🏛 A city shaped like a perfect circle: the unique history of Baghdad Few people know that ancient Baghdad was designed as a perfect circle! The city was founded in 762 by Caliph Abu Ja'far al-Mansur and was called the «City of Peace» (Madinat al-Salam). A perfect circle with a diameter of about 2 kilometers surrounded the heart of the city, where the caliph's palace and the main mosque were located. The central position of these buildings symbolized the importance of the ruler and religion in the life of the city. The architecture of Baghdad was inspired by the mathematical and geometrical teachings of Euclid, which emphasizes the high level of scientific knowledge of the time. Unfortunately, the original circular Baghdad has not survived. In the 19th century, during Ottoman rule, the remains of the ancient fortifications were finally destroyed. However, this does not cancel the uniqueness and importance of this city in history. Baghdad was not only the political center, but also the cultural capital of the Islamic world, where science, art and philosophy flourished. Click on ❤️ or ⭐️
