Hackers Demand $6 Million For Data Stolen From Seattle Airport Cyberattack Hackers are demanding $6 million in bitcoin from the operator of the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport for documents they stole during a cyberattack last month and posted on the dark web this week, an airport official said Wednesday. The Port of Seattle, which owns and runs the airport, has decided not to pay, the official said. The airport previously linked the attack to a ransomware gang called Rhysida, and now the FBI is conducting a criminal investigation, said Lance Lyttle, the port’s managing director of aviation. Mr. Lyttle told a U.S. Senate committee that the airport appears to have stopped the attack, but the hackers were able to encrypt some data. “On Monday, they posted on their dark website a copy of eight files stolen from Port systems and are seeking 100 bitcoin to buy the data,” Mr. Lyttle said. Mr. Lyttle did not describe the documents. He said the airport will contact any individuals whose personal information might have been stolen. Join Theo | Join Theo.Health | Donate

Chinese Carrier Enters Japan’s Waters For First Time — report A Chinese aircraft carrier temporarily entered Japan’s contiguous waters for the first time on Wednesday, Japan’s public broadcaster NHK reported, the latest encounter that could further ratchet up tensions between the neighbours. The carrier sailed between Japan’s southern Yonaguni and Iriomote islands, NHK reported, entering an area that extends up to 24 nautical miles from its coastline where Japan can exert some controls as defined by the United Nations. Japan’s defence ministry did not immediately have comment. Earlier on Wednesday, Taiwan’s defence ministry said it had spotted the same Chinese aircraft carrier group sailing through waters off its east coast in the direction of Yonaguni, Japan’s southernmost island, which is about 110 km (69 miles) east of Taiwan. North Korea Test-Fired Ballistic Missiles — report North Korea on Wednesday test-fired multiple ballistic missiles toward its eastern seas, the South Korean and Japanese militaries said, adding to its military demonstrations as tensions with Washington and neighbors escalate. South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said it detected North Korea firing multiple short-range ballistic missiles from north of its capital, Pyongyang, and said they traveled about 400 kilometers (244 miles) while flying toward the northeast. The joint chiefs said it was closely communicating with the United States and Japan while analyzing the launches but didn’t immediately provide further flight details. Japan’s defense ministry said it detected at least two launches but did not immediately say what types of missiles they were and how far they flew. North Korea did not immediately confirm the launches. Join Theo | Join Theo.Health | Donate

Australian Police Infiltrate Encrypted Messaging Application Ghost And Arrest Dozens The Ghost app’s alleged administrator, Jay Je Yoon Jung, 32, appeared in a Sydney court Wednesday on charges including supporting a criminal organization and benefitting from proceeds of crime. Jung did not enter pleas or apply to be released on bail. He will remain behind bars until his case returns to court in November. Col. Florian Manet, who heads France’s Home Affairs Ministry National Cyber Command Technical Department, said in a statement issued by Australian police that his officers provided technical resources to the task force over several years that helped decrypt the communications. “In effect, we infected the devices, enabling us to access the content on Australian devices,” Mr. McCartney said. He explained that police was able to modify updates to the software. Australian police arrested 38 suspects in raids across four states in recent days while law enforcement agencies were also making arrests in Canada, Sweden, Ireland and Italy, Australian Federal Police Deputy Commissioner Ian McCartney said. “We allege hundreds of criminals including Italian organized crime, motorcycle gang members, Middle Eastern organized crime and Korean organized crime have used Ghost in Australia and overseas to import illicit drugs and order killings,” Mr. McCartney told reporters. Australian police had prevented 50 people from being killed, kidnapped or seriously hurt by monitoring threats among 125,000 messages and 120 video calls since March, Assistant Commissioner Kirsty Schofield said. Police allege the Jung developed the app specifically for criminal use in 2017. Australia joined a Europol-led global taskforce targeting Ghost in 2022. Join Theo | Join Theo.Health | Donate

A Wave Of Exploding Pagers In Lebanon And Syria Injures 18 Hezbollah High Commanders, Injures More Than 2000 Operatives At least eight people were killed and 2,750 wounded — 200 of them critically, Lebanon’s health minister, Firas Abiad, said, concealing that fact that all killed and injured were operatives of the Hezbollah terror group that were hit with a sophisticated cyberattack that led to the pagers’ explosion. The lithium battery brought to the extremely high temperature rapidly led to the explosion of the pagers that were essential elements of the communication system that equipped all Hezbollah operatives, from commanders to the low-rank terrorists. According to the reports, devices exploded simultaneously across the country and in neighboring Syria when alerted by a signal tried to read their message. Their injuries were severe, with many losing their eyes and parts of their hands as they tried to look at the screen. Others received deep wounds at their sides from pieces of metal and plastics piercing their soft tissues as explosions happened in their belts or pockets. According to the Iranian media, the Ambassador of Iran, Mojtaba Amani, was among the wounded, along with his security guards, as all carried secret communication with Hezbollah. Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah previously warned the group’s members not to carry cellphones, saying that they could be used by Israel to track their movements and to carry out targeted strikes. On Tuesday night, Lebanese media quoting Hezbollah terror group sources said that the number of casualties - injured - rose to “more than 4,000 people”. The wounded Hezbollah terrorists were still being brought to hospitals all around the country. Join Theo | Join Theo.Health | Donate

Nearly 40 Per Cent Of Gazans Still Support Oct 7 Terrorist Attack Against Israel — poll Four out of ten surveyed Palestinians in Gaza believe that Hamas made the right decision to launch the terrorist attack on Israel on October 7th according to the poll published on Tuesday, which indicates significant support for the assault. The terrorist attack involved beating, shooting, rape, knifing, and kidnapping innocent Israelis - including aged, sick and injured. The poll, conducted in early September by the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research (PSR), found that 39 per cent of people surveyed in the Gaza Strip said the decision to launch the terror attack was correct. On October 7 Hamas launched an unprecedented raid which killed 1,200 people and resulted in another 250 being abducted, according to Israeli sources. Israel responded with operations primarily focused on the total elimination of Hamas terrorist infrastructure, which organizations often linked to civilian facilities. Nevertheless, the IDF repeatedly warns Gazans before any attacks or planned explosions of the kilometers of terror tunnels. These tunnels have operation centers, launchers, arsenals, and hideouts built entirely from the funds provided as international aid for Gaza. Terrorist group Hamas defrauded billions of dollars in foreign aid donated in faith that they would improve welfare of Gazans. Join Theo | Join Theo.Health | Donate

Facebook Owner Meta Bans Kremlin-controlled Media Outlets Meta said it’s banning Russia government-controlled media organizations from its social media platforms, alleging that the outlets used deceptive tactics to amplify Moscow’s propaganda. The announcement drew a rebuke from the Kremlin on Tuesday. The company, which owns Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram, said late Monday that it will roll out the ban over the next few days in an escalation of its efforts to counter Russia’s covert influence operations. “After careful consideration, we expanded our ongoing enforcement against Russian state media outlets: Rossiya Segodnya, RT and other related entities are now banned from our apps globally for foreign interference activity,” Meta said in a statement. Meta’s actions comes days after the United States announced new sanctions on RT, accusing the Kremlin news outlet of being a key part of Russia’s war machine and its efforts to undermine its democratic adversaries. Meta had already taken steps to limit Moscow’s online reach. Since 2020 it has been labeling posts and content from state media. Two years later, it stopped Russian state media from running ads and putting their content lower in people’s feeds, and the company, along with other other social media sites like YouTube and TikTok, stopped European Union users from accessing RT and Sputnik channels after the outlets were sanctioned by Brussels. Moldova Could Be Next In Line If Ukraine Falls, Germany Says Support for #Ukraine guarantees the survival of neighbouring Moldova, #German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said on Tuesday at a conference to address concerns about broadening Russian interference in the region. “Everything that we do to support Ukraine also means fostering stabilisation with regards to Moldova,” Baerbock said. “It is clear what the greatest concern of the people here is: that if Ukraine falls, Moldova is the next country in line.” Ms. Baerbock was visiting Chisinau for the #Moldova Partnership Platform, together with her counterparts from #France, #Romania, #Poland, the #Netherlands and #Lithuania. Germany, one of Kyiv’s main military supporters in #Europe, initiated the platform after #Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, painting it as part of broader efforts to stabilise Moldova’s economy and shield it from Russian disinformation. Moldova, which has a Romanian-speaking majority and large Russian-speaking minority, has alternated between pro-Russian and pro-Western governments since the fall of the #Soviet Union, and now has a strong Western-oriented administration. Moscow has troops stationed in a region where pro-Russian separatists broke from Chisinau’s control in a short war in the early 1990s. Moldovan President Maia Sandu, who has accused Russia of trying to overthrow her government, said Moldova still faces serious challenges and urged partners to increase their support. “Russia’s war against Ukraine, which we condemned from the very first day, has caused enormous damage to our economy,” Ms. Sandu said. #TheO Join Theo | Join Theo.Health | Donate
