Can those chains, wheels and axles really have propelled passengers so far and so fast? And what does it mean when a mechanism no longer works? Itโs a question posed by the show.Beyond profound... Follow @MadTParty on Telegram | ๐

While removing the winter fuel allowance for most pensioners...
Meanwhile, this study tells us that 1 in 5 female pensioners live in poverty and that "single female pensioners are at much higher risk of being in poverty than single men and pensioner couples".
They really don't care about actual people.

"What is a CBDC for? What problem is it going to solve?"
"Look, um... it's to keep track with the reality of how, um, we all, um, purchase and save.... Um, er, and, um."
The speaker is the Permanent Secretary to the Treasury and, other than keeping better track of all of our economic interactions (i.e. control us), the only positive he could come up with is that it is modern...
I know many crypto fans and I can appreciate (though not share) their enthusiasm, especially around privacy. But while CBDC is crypto's close relative in technological terms, philosophically, ethically, politically, it is the exact opposite.
It is clear why they want CBDC. Hint: To control us.
What is not clear is why any of us would want it.

Totally unexpected!
Who could have predicted this?
EV's are totally the future, how could this be?
Except as a niche market, this was always going to occur because neither the mass market nor the infrastructure are there.
Cool idea that may someday work, but not now, and not by 2030.
Fortunately, the global climate crisis isn't happening either.

And it is not even close!
Brave Sir Keir, the toolmaker's son has received far more perks than any other MP.
And it is all legal, as long as there is no obvious perks for direct favours.
Influence is not a favour.
Non-specific legislative changes (for example tax laws that favour many, and not just the one giving freebies) are not a favour.
Commercial advantages abroad (if done discretely) are not a favour
Paybacks, for example cushy jobs, after the term of office are not a favour.
Starmer is on track to be the most hated PM, if not in history, certainly in living memory.
And it would seem he really doesn't mind.
