Minister of Defense of Ukraine: "Today, together with the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, we opened the EU Defense Innovation Office. The main focus of this cooperation is to combine efforts to strengthen defense capabilities. We pay special attention to joint developments in the field of IT and weapons production, which will be decisive for defeating Russian aggression. Over the past 2.5 years, Ukraine has become a world leader in drone technologies. Today, more than 500 Ukrainian drone manufacturers and thousands of developers are creating advanced solutions for combat operations. With an annual production capacity of up to 3 million drones, Ukraine has established itself as a true defense technology center. Our country has enormous potential in defense technologies, and I urge European partners to invest in Ukrainian manufacturers. Together, we can significantly strengthen the defense capability of not only Ukraine, but all of Europe.

Ibrahim Aqil, who was killed today, led Hezbollah's military operations for many years. Among other things, he is known for his participation in the 1983 attacks on the US embassy in Beirut (when 63 people were killed) and the barracks of American and French soldiers in Beirut (when 307 people were killed). In 2019, the US included Aqil on the terrorist list, and in 2023, the US State Department announced that it would pay $7 million for information on his whereabouts.

Hundreds of Russian scientists will be denied access to the Large Hadron Collider. The European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), widely known as the operator of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in Switzerland, will deny hundreds of scientists associated with Russian organizations access to its facilities from December 1 this year, the journal Nature reported. The decision is related to Russia's aggression against Ukraine. According to the publication, from December, scientists working in conjunction with Russian institutes will no longer be able to visit CERN and will have to surrender their French and Swiss residence permits. In order to continue working in the organization's laboratories, they will have to break off cooperation with Russian institutions and move to foreign scientific institutes. The head of the Kurchatov Institute, Mikhail Kovalchuk, called the decision to remove Russian scientists "a gift for the country," since many physicists will return to Russia. However, St. Petersburg physicist and former research fellow at St. Petersburg State University, Andrei Seryakov, disagrees. "This should not be perceived as the return of brains. There are colleagues who do not come here at all, they do everything remotely. And there are those who sit here all year. Depending on what work you do," he explains.

The son of the Orenburg governor will play hockey for the American team. His father is under US sanctions and criticises the โ€œcollective West.โ€ Sixteen-year-old Denis Pasler Jr. went to the United States and became a New Jersey Rockets hockey team player. Before that, he played in Yekaterinburg, but more than ten hockey players left the team abroad, the Selection Department channel reported. The governor's son is the only foreigner in the new club. In 2022, the head of the Orenburg region, Denis Pasler, came under sanctions from the United States, Canada and Great Britain. Then he stated that all his assets - โ€œfamily, home, friends, workโ€ - are in Russia, and no sanctions โ€œwill prevent the return of peace to the land of Donbas.โ€ Pasler has written more than once about โ€œconfrontation with the collective West.โ€ He called the participants in the war in Ukraine โ€œan example of patriotism for young people.โ€ Photo of the Sverdlovsk Region Hockey Federation

Electric cars are up to twice as expensive as petrol or diesel vehicles to run, new figures have suggested. Running an electric vehicle (EV) can cost more than 24p per mile, while a diesel vehicle is 12.5p. It costs as much as 80p per kilowatt hour to charge an EV using a rapid or ultra-rapid device on the roadside, according to data from the app ZapMap. A typical electric car will travel 3.3 miles for every kWh of electricity used, meaning rapid and ultra-rapid chargers currently cost the equivalent of 24.1p per mile, calculations by The Times suggest. Slower chargers cost 16.4p per mile. This is around double the average diesel car, which will do 43 miles per gallon, resulting in a cost of 12.5p per mile at current prices. A typical petrol car costs 14.5p per mile, according to the analysis. Expand article logo Continue reading A return journey from London to Penzance would cost ยฃ148 in an electric car using rapid chargers, the Times said, compared with ยฃ77 in a diesel car and ยฃ89 using petrol. It added that at-home charging is much cheaper at less than a third of the price of the average rapid charger. ZapMap found that prices at rapid chargers have increased 5 per cent over the past year, despite a 30 per cent decrease in the wholesale cost of electricity.
