π΄ββ οΈ TALK LIKE A PIRATE! π΄ββ οΈ
π΄ββ οΈ As today is INTERNATIONAL TALK LIKE A PIRATE DAY, letβs take a look at some seafaring-related idioms!
πͺ βBatten down the hatchesβ was a call to prepare for a storm. Now it means preparation for any difficulties.
π§ βThe ropesβ is a metaphor for knowledge, so you can βknowβ or even βshow somebody the ropesβ.
π€ βPipe down!β Originally a call to go below deck, now it means βbe quietβ.
β΅οΈ The βjibβ is a small sail on a ship. If you βdonβt like the cut of someoneβs jibβ it means you donβt like their attitude or the way they look.
π₯ Finally βthree sheets to the windβ is what many pirates were after a hard dayβs pirating - very drunk!

#BINOMIALS
π€ BINOMIALS are pairs of words that MUST be in a specific order.
If the words are in a different order, it sounds strange:
β’ Postage and packaging is free on all our products.
This is true even if the words RHYME:
β’ Itβs make or break for United in the semi-final.
Sometimes we just repeat the SAME WORD:
β’ Heβs been proven wrong time after time.
Sometimes binomials are completely IDIOMATIC:
β’ They might be twins but at school they are like chalk and cheese!
