Life hadn't been rosy for Thomas Koh, but he managed to defy the odds and build a successful business. However, at age 39, everything crumbled around him due to prolonged substance abuse, and he attempted to take his own life. Now, almost 10 years sober, Thomas volunteers at various organisations to help others overcome their vices and start anew. πŸ’ͺ He credits his recovery to his support group, role models, and the three-week inpatient recovery program. The journey was made easier by the Yellow Ribbon Project's efforts in building an inclusive society, making his reintegration less challenging. πŸŒ±πŸŽ—οΈ https://www.instagram.com/p/DACnvppK7Da/?igsh=a3psMzF4NzZ1czU1 #BeyondSecondChances #SG4SecondChances #YellowRibbonProject #YRP20

In addition to the record number of participants for the YRP run event, the run had also raised a total of $557,370.00, which was the highest ever since the event was introduced! These funds will go towards various programmes that support the rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates and ex-offenders, as well as support their families and children to prevent inter-generational offending. For participants who completed the 10KM Competitive Run πŸ…, you can check out your race timings here: www.yellowribbonprisonrun.sg in the next few days. Thank you for being part of the Yellow Ribbon Prison Run, and see you next time! https://www.instagram.com/p/C_XuC8VyRyK/?igsh=MTVydTA4NDhrOWRsaQ== #yellowribbonprisonrun #2ndchances #SG4SecondChances #YellowRibbonProject #YellowRibbonSingapore #aNationBeyondSecondChances #YRPR24 #YRP20

A HUGE thank you to all runners who put their best foot forward and ran in support of a Nation Beyond Second Chances! πŸ’›πŸŽ— On 1 September 2024, Guest-Of-Honour, Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong , flagged off this year's Yellow Ribbon Prison Run. He was joined by Minister for Digital Development and Information & Second Minister for Home Affairs, Mrs Josephine Teo . This event welcomed about 11,000 local and overseas participants, taking part in 10km or 5km run categories. πŸ’ͺ🏻 This year also saw the introduction of the inaugural Kids Dash category, as we seek to inspire the younger generation about the importance of giving second chances!πŸƒπŸΌ The 15th edition of the Yellow Ribbon Project's (YRP) flagship event also coincided with YRP's 20th anniversary celebration.πŸŽ— As we move beyond two decades of championing second chances, the YRP hopes to expand collaborations and encourage more community partners, while also empowering desistors to play a more active role in leading projects and initiatives.πŸ₯³

This year’s event achieved a couple of milestones β€” a record number of about 11,000 participants running in two categories – 10km and 5km, and the highest ever amount raised β€” more than $557K β€” to support the rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates and ex-offenders, as well as their families. This year marks 20 years of the Yellow Ribbon Project in championing second chances, and uplifting the lives of ex-offenders in their reintegration journey. I thank the Yellow Ribbon Project and CARE Network agencies for their continuous effort in engaging the public and working with community partners to raise awareness and acceptance of ex-offenders. Reintegration into society is not an easy task, but if we can all show a little care and empathy, it will help us build a β€œA Nation Beyond 2nd Chances”. πŸŽ—οΈ – LHL https://www.facebook.com/share/p/g1gnRGL5rbA5trWd/?mibextid=oFDknk #SG4SecondChances #YellowRibbonSingapore #BeyondSecondChances #YRPR24 #YRP20 #YellowRibbonProject
