🟨❌🇺🇦 AUR MEPs voted against the resolution that would allow Ukraine to use EU weapons to strike deep into Russian territory. The resolution passed the European Parliaments with 425 votes for, 131 against and 63 abstentions. Motivating the decision to vote against, the leader of the AUR delegation to Brussels, Claudiu Târziu said:

"(...) We believe that the efforts of the European Union should be focused on ending the conflict as soon as possible.

Arming both sides does nothing other than prolonging the war and causing many unnecessary deaths (...) we will never agree to an extension of the military and financial assistance program, on an indefinite term, unless a clear strategy on how to end the conflict is elaborated".

"The COVID plandemic, which never happened, was not enough for you. Now you are preparing for a new pandemic, in Africa, where this Parliament has no jurisdiction over. I have fought as a lawyer in the civil society and as a senator in the Romanian Parliament, for the rights and freedoms of citizens that had to deal with the green passport which reminded us of Nazism, because only a dictatorship would enforce such a thing.

You have tried to kill as many elderly people as possible. Italy was an experiment where they tried to kill as many elders as they could. In Romania, 65k people were put into bodybags and they call out from their graves for the truth to come out.

You have tried to stop us from going to church, you have tried to stop us from celebrating Pascha but we resisted and we fought lines of gendarmes in order to enter and celebrate Pascha. 🇷🇴🏫⚡️ Some pictures from the subject "Social Education" introduced by Klaus Johannis and education minister, Ligia Deca as part of the "Educated Romania" program: "Social Education's" main goal is to teach pupils about "becoming responsible citizens" and becoming a responsible citizens warrants learning that they are "citizens of the world" and every place on this planet "is their home". The manual devotes an entire chapter to explaining the "benefits" of cultural diversity and what the pupils can do to suppress their "racist" instincts. The manual looks at the "refugee problem of the world" and says that they must be welcomed in with no questions asked. It then tasks the pupils to write essays to document themselves about refugees and come up with solutions regarding their status On the cultural heritage of Romania, despite that, according to the last census, Romanians make 89% of Romania, the manual mostly speaks about the cultural heritage of other minorities like Hungarians, Saxons, Gypsies and Lipovans. The manual also avoids using the term "Romanian" to define the readers. Both the Saxons and Lipovans have under 20k people in Romania as they have either assimilated or in the case of the Saxons, left for Germany or Austria. "Intolerance" is said to be the result of "uneducation" and that tolerance is a key condition for a democratic society. The manual then continues to wrongly define the "motherland" as the "territory controled by a nation and all the differences that set it apart from other nations". The real definition being: the "political, social and cultural environment in which a nation was born, lives and works on a certain territory, place or geographical area; language, traditions and culture". 🇪🇺👑⚡️ POLITICO writes that Ursula VDL's new commission was a "power grab"

“She will be even more in control of everything,” said one EU official who, like others quoted in this piece, was granted anonymity to speak freely. “Who thought that was even possible?”

It was the culmination of months of public and private strategy to remove the dissenting voices of her first term as European Commission president. From the first team, none of the naysayers remain. Big personalities such as France’s Thierry Breton and the Netherlands’ Frans Timmermans are now gone.

During her first term — in which she faced a global pandemic and a war on the EU’s doorstep — she developed a reputation for making unilateral decisions, overstepping her job description, cutting other EU leaders out of the decision-making, and speaking only to a handful of advisers. As a result, she gained the nickname Queen Ursula in Brussels.

Romania was not the only country that was promised a better portfolio if it did what VDL wanted, meaning nominating a female for the job. France got swindled as well out of a big portfolio if it replaced Thierry Breton, the Commissioner that wrote the DSA and the EU's planned chat control law. Breton was replaced by France's foreign minister, Stéphane Séjourné, but instead of receiving the commissioner for the internal market like before, France got the commissioner for "prosperity and industrial strategy", meaning only a part of the internal market, not the entire market.

Von der Leyen amassing power shouldn’t come as a surprise.

Once powerful leaders who steered the EU are weakened, leaving a void for von der Leyen to fill. France’s Macron suffered a major loss in June’s European election to the far-right and then went through a bruising national vote. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is worried about his own future and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk is preoccupied with domestic politics.

“You don’t have to teach von der Leyen how to play the power game,” the third EU diplomat said. “She saw the vacuum left by the European capitals and jumped into it.”

In other words, VDL filled up her commission with loyalists and marginalised all problematic people.

Still, von der Leyen won’t be able to fully run Europe on her own for the next five years.

She needs the European Parliament to give the green light to her team so they can start work — ideally sooner rather than later. And von der Leyen needs to keep European leaders and their ambassadors in Brussels close enough to ensure they’ll be on board with her plans for Europe’s future — and that they will open up their wallets to pay for it all.

🟦🌹⚡️ The PSD-PNL coalition will be discussing next Monday changing the Law 208/2015 which prevents the sitting Romanian president from running for Parliament! PNL wants their man, Klaus Johannis, to be able to run for Parliament without stepping down as Romanian president early. This is in blatant violation of the Romanian Constitution, specifically, art. 84 which says that the sitting president cannot be a member of a political party (Johannis has had his PNL membership suspended for the last ~10 years) and cannot fulfill any other public or private job while as Romanian president. Running for Senate means that Klaus Johannis will keep his immunity and also a high paying low effort job. How far the mighty have fallen, from running for Secretary of NATO, to hoping for a job at the European Commission, to now running for senator... poor Johannis... Johannis is not the first Romanian president to immediately run for Parliament before his term ends. The first one was Ion Iliescu in 2004 who, like Johannis, had a special law made for him that permitted him to campaign for Parliament. 🇺🇳🗳📝 — Albania, Serbia, Croatia, Bulgaria and Romania all abstained on the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) vote condemning Israeli presence in Palestinian Territories

🇺🇸🇬🇧🇷🇴🇺🇦 Besides the B9 reunion and the visit of the Ukrainian foreign minister, several other important decisions were taken by the Permanent Bureaus of the Reunited Chambers of Parliament today: 🔸 The Romanian Parliament approved the decision to deploy the Naval Special Warfare Development Group (NSWDG) also known as SEAL Team Six to Romania. The U.S. Navy Seals will hold joint training exercices with Romanian Special Forces to enhance cooperation and coordination between the two groups. 🔸 Romania approved the formation of a training facility for Ukrainian marines. The Ukrainian marines will be trained by British and Norwegian experts. 🔸 The Parliament approved the deployment of 35 Swedish military instructors which will train another group of Ukrainian marines to use Swedish amphibious equipment. The facility is located in the city of Mangalia. The Romanian side will however be covering the logistical support from its own pockets. Romania has already requested a reimbursement from the EU for this task. 🔸 A logistical hub also designed to help Ukraine is being constructed at the airbase in Câmpia Turzii. The project is part of the NATO Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine (NSATU), a new project which began operating on July 12th, 2024. NSATU has a budget of 40 billion EURs per year and it is split among the 31 participating members. Only Hungary opted out of this project. Its main base is at the Wiesbaden-Erbenheim airbase in Germany, the logistical hub at Câmpia Turzii will be for secondary operations. 🇺🇦🙏🇷🇴 Ukrainian foreign minister, Andreiy Sybiha, begs Romania to shoot down Russian drones situated outside of Romanian airspace Sybiha said that he is extremely grateful for the donation of the MIM-104 Patriot SAM system but that Romania can do more and should begin shooting down Russian drones which strike Ukrainian targets near the Romanian border. 🇷🇴🌐❌🇷🇺 Bucharest Nine (B9) members called on a joint response from NATO to combat the habit of Russian drones violating NATO airspace following last week's incidents in Romania and Latvia. B9 reunites 9 NATO members on the Eastern Flank, those being, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Czechia, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. The defense ministers of B9 reunited as part of the yearly B9 meetup in Bucharest. Romanian defense minister, Angel Tîlvăr said:

"The B9 states are deeply concerned about the repeated incursions of Russia's drones and missiles into NATO airspace, in Poland, Romania, Latvia, as well as the escalation of tensions along NATO's eastern flank," “Therefore, a robust and coordinated response is needed at the allied level, as well as the application as soon as possible of the integrated air and anti-missile rotating model,”

Polish defense minister, Pawel Zalewski said a meeting of NATO defence ministers in October would have to address the destruction of drones entering allies' airspace. He also accused Belarus of aiding Russia commit such violations of NATO territory:

“We have confirmed the hybrid attacks on the allies, as well as the participation of Belarus in Russia’s actions,” Zalewski said.
