In some countries, the numbers of children aged 15 and younger are increasing dramatically.
What are the current and future effects of an ever-increasing population?
It has been noted lately that children aged 15 or below make up the majority of populations in some countries. As for their current effects, strains on education systems and family budgets are the primary ones, while the future may face challenges, such as job shortages and cultural loss.
To begin with, rapidly growing numbers of children in the age group of 15 or below mean an increased pressure on school systems. Some state-run schools, indeed, run on a tight budget, so they are not financially able to equip students with resources needed in their education. With a further increase in the school-age population, they would struggle to provide proper education, thus leading to a rise in the number of children graduating without decent school backgrounds.
Raising more children comes with the need to meet the financial demands, including education, healthcare and basic needs like food and shelter. This, especially, poses difficulties for low-income families that could barely afford their day-to-day expenses. With added burden from having more children, these families would suffer from a deeper level of poverty. The current effects of having more children aged 15 or younger extends to the future.
The future will also be affected negatively by the higher proportion of young children. One drawback is expected to be heightened job competition. As more and more young individuals try their fortune for a limited number of positions, their chances of being recruited go down, potentially leading to many of them left without a job. This, in turn, will lead to an increased level of unemployment, further fueling the poverty.
Moreover, since older people tend to contribute more to the preservation of cultural values and traditions, the latter might fade away as a result of increasingly more young children. This is because young people do not favor practicing cultural customs as much as their old counterparts. Having lost their cultural diversity, countries would also lose their identity, resulting in them becoming less unique and exotic. These are the repercussions that the future holds for us, if there is the disproportionate number of young people.
To conclude, having gone into the current consequences and aftereffects of a surge in the number of children aged 15 or below, it is now clear that the former ranges from strained education systems to burdens on low-income households, while the latter include stiff employment competition and cultural loss.
