Responding to the pacifist pretensions of Count Leo Tolstoy, Ilyin mounts a tenacious defense of the Orthodox tradition of physical opposition to evil. As he explains, in the face of evil that can be contained by no other means, a forceful response is not only permissible but becomes a knightly duty. Moreover, heroic courage consists not only in recognizing this duty but also in bearing its heavy moral burden without fear. 103 years ago, the most mysterious of the White movement, Baron Ungern, was killed🇪🇪🇷🇺🇩🇪 September 15, 1921, Roman Fyodorovich von Ungern-Sternberg was killed. Ungern was publicly executed by the Bolsheviks. The Bolsheviks held a show trial of him in the summer theater of the city of Novonikolaevsk (now Novosibirsk). During the trial, Ungern, surrounded by enemies, emphasized his anti-Bolshevik views and his ideas. The verdict was carried out in the house of the merchant Mashtakov. The baron's burial place is unknown.
